Ran a vertical mile race yesterday with some friends. It was a 5 loop course. Ended up just shy of 6000 feet of gain. Couple of the hills were more than 25% grade. I hit the first 2 loops hard while the ground was frozen then it turned muddy and I slowed down the last loops so I didn’t pull anything. All about buckling down and keep moving forward. Lots of fun!

Huge shout-out to @littlerunnergurl for some unexpected Pringles & oatmeal cream pie at the aid station to help fuel the final lap.

Not too terribly sore today. Resting a day or two, but not too long… I have 3 weeks until a 50k in Cleveland.

I love when things happen perfectly and without overplanning. Serendipity. Went trail running yesterday with a good friend. Woke up at 5AM to get ready and we had to drive about an hour to get to the park. We started out before daybreak and by the time we reached the top of the first peak, Sugarloaf Mountain, the sun was coming up. There was only a thin opening between the horizon and clouds, as snow was moving in, so the sun only came out for a couple minutes all day. What are the odds that we would be in the best location to catch that window?

We continued our trail run for the next 5 hours. Went a little slower than normal because it was snowy and then muddy underneath the snow. Such a beautiful day plus another couple inches of snow fell while we were out there.

Solid week of running. Today I ran with the run club. 13.7 miles out and back on a paved path. Not the funnest route, but the conversations make up for the route.

Did a couple days of hill repeats. 2600 feet of vert this week. It’s a start. I have a vertical mile race in 3 weeks and want to make sure my legs are up for the challenge of the hills. After that race… Who knows what else is next. Nothing on the calendar right now.

Catching light snow on camera isn’t easy. Thankfully the 12 miles with Jason was easier. Fun conversations about our evolving world. He’s got a 50k next week and I have a marathon so this was a nice and “easy” 12 miles. Only a handful of hills that kept us around 9:30 pace. It was nice running in the light snow.
