Well… The Disney Marathon didn’t go quite according to plan, but I had a lot of fun!

I didn’t realize I was in the last corral until the expo ended so I started out in the very back. Literally the back fence. But I was not going to let that get me down. I ended up passing more than 11,000 of the finishers, and there were a lot of people that didn’t finish. I made sure to pass respectfully on the edge, in the grass and not cutting up through the middle. Made my move early while it was still cool, and cool being 70° at the start. It was very warm and very humid once the sun came up. They actually cut the course short and took off a lollipop for the later runners.

I soaked in the entire experience and stopped 29 times for photos with the characters. My finishing time wasn’t even a goal. Just enjoy the race. Once I was in people my pace I just settled in and trudged through humidity. My shoes were sloshing in sweat by mile 10. My wife had the kids at mile 23 and that was motivation to keep going. By not acclimating to the heat it really took a tole on my heart rate. When I stopped to see my family it was 202! I rarely ever get that high. I had been hydrating religiously through the race, but this one was a fun, brutal race.

I highly recommend a Run Disney race if you are looking for a good time. It’s not where you go to try to PR. I may have bit the bug and be back in a couple years for the Dopey Challenege: 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon. Run Disney knows how to put on a fun experience.

Up next: vertical mile race in a month. Time to work on some hills!

Thankfully it was a little warmer for today’s 14 miles. It was about 30°F with a light breeze when I started at 5AM. Used a personal day for my daughter’s preschool Christmas program. So it was great to get a long run in before that then spent the early afternoon doing bookkeeping for my side business. All my receipts and invoices are all done for the season. It feels so good to have that done. Nap time!

Had my longest run in the last 15 months, 21 miles, on Saturday morning. Then failed to take a nap before family arrived at our house before heading down to campus for the Ohio State football game. I DID manage to fall asleep in the camper during part of the game. 😂😂😂

4 flush-out (shakeout) miles today. Felt a little stiff at first then loosened up pretty quick. Got the kids back from my parents and the 4 year old has a nasty cold so getting her on the mend is the main goal now. And keeping her away from her brother so he stays healthy.

Wow… Been a while since I’ve been on here. 46 miles actually… I was off Monday so I went for an early morning run. I LOVE early morning runs. So peaceful and you get to see the world come alive.

My next run was strictly to keep heartrate around 150 for a recovery run.

Wednesday was Hill repeats. I strangely love this harassment.

Rest day Thursday. Then 19 miles on Friday after work since I worked this weekend. Audiobook was due back to the library Saturday so I finished the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

My wife has been burnt out taking care of the kids so much at night and in the morning(while I’ve been on extra work duty) so I took the kids for a trail run today and grocery trip while she napped a few hours. Fun day.
