Saturday long run was good. I have a 50k next weekend so I didn’t want to overdo this weekend… I may have.
Did 7 miles before the group run then picked them up and did another 8. Birds were chirping and you could feel a tease of spring despite the cold temps. Probably the coldest morning for the rest of the season. Warmer temps on the way.
Just missed my goal of 100 miles in February. I was sick in the middle of the month and skipped a long run, so I would have made it except for that. Still doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you factor in a crossfit session and high intensity spin class each week, I’m doing well. The extra cross-training is hopefully setting me up for a healthy year of running.
We’re now three weeks out from the Shamrock Shuffle, which will be my first race since Thanksgiving. This is the most consistent winter of training that I’ve had in a while, but still feel like I’m teetering on the edge of more injuries if I get too aggressive. I’m hopeful I can pull out a sub-30 8K, which would mean I’m roughly at the same level of fitness as when I ran the half back in September. I’m optimistic that’s achievable, especially since I usually come out of the winter cocoon excited for racing season.
I’ve been taking a rest day on Thursdays lately, but I’d like to turn that into a fifth day of running soon. Tried this past Thursday, but I guess the ol’ body was still wanting the rest. Once the sun starts shining more and earlier, I’m sure the motivation will pick up. I’m very encouraged by the 7:36 average pace in the graph above and the progress I see when comparing to last year at this time.
Busy morning. Got in 11 miles with my run club. Then took a break to join my family for breakfast before we put Evan down for his morning nap. Then went back out for my second run. Run club was having a pop-up shop at the local coffee shop, so I ran there. Didn’t need any new shirts (have all of our current ones), but I did buy some bib boards with the run clubs logo. Then ran home for 20.5 miles for the day. Solid long run before my 50k in two weeks. It felt like a pretty accomplished morning with running, breakfast, and supporting the run club’s sale.
Not exactly sure what I’m doing for weekend run yet. Was going to go to in-laws, but we are fighting off a small bug so a lot is up in the air. Weird feeling… Trails? Run-club? Early solo run? Several pros/cons for each. I’ll maul it over during my nap today. 🤣
